This transition also marked Steve’s retirement from the FBI after more than two decades of service as a special agent, during which time he served in various cyber program roles in both the field and FBI headquarters, most recently as Chief of Cyber Policy. Prior to his government service, he practiced as a registered professional engineer.
As the Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD) continues to shape the nation’s cybersecurity strategy, understanding its relationship with the National Security Council (NSC) is crucial for enhancing its impact. This panel will delve into the themes outlined in the soon to be released whitepaper from the Center for Cybersecurity Policy and Law, which examines how ONCD and the NSC can effectively collaborate to address the evolving cyber threat landscape. Panelists will also explore the potential benefits of restructuring ONCD to mirror the United States Trade Representative (USTR) model, discussing how such an approach could strengthen ONCD’s role in driving cybersecurity policy and coordination.
